navicular asked: I didn't say don't go to the doctor. I said that demons can cause it. And their isn't any evidence that God heals through prayer because doctors don't but it down as a miraculous healing so there is no way that you could prove it if people refuse to recognize it.
Just because some christians decide not to go to a doctor because they believe God will heal them means that all believe that. I went to the doctor the other day and had a check up because I've been having some medical issues. I would never tell some one not to go to the doctor if they had medical issues. But I'm also not saying that God doesn't heal. My brother had appendicitis and God healed him. The doctors said he had it, proved it with blood tests and x-rays and he was scheduled for surgery. When the doctor came back to check on him he was sitting up and laughing, the doctor said that he couldn't have it if he was sitting up. So he listed it as a "Virus thingy." And my brother left the hospital pain free without any issues. That's all doctor. Who spent years learning about the human body and was rigorously tested through every single one of those years.
My soon to be sister in law has been to the doctor and she got medication to help with it, the meds don't help. But prayer does. She hasn't encouraged others to forego medical treatment, at least to my knowledge. I doubt she would though since she has been to the doctor.
I didn't say that all sleep paralysis is caused by demons. I just said that it happens. And I didn't get to read the thing the other person posted but I didn't read that Mr. religious said don't go the doctor. Yeah, he may have been uneducated in his opinion but that doesn't mean all christians are. You were upset that another psychology blog wasn't double checking their articles and posting false things. Well, just as you wouldn't like people to view you that way because of one person I don't like to be viewed that way because of one person. Just because people have the same label doesn't mean they are the same. There are girly girls who hate bugs and getting dirty and there are girly girls who will go fishing and get dirty. I could go all day but I think you see what I'm saying.
It's unfair to automatically assume all people are the same just because they have the same label.
I really don’t know how to make my views any clearer, since you didn’t understand last time. I don’t view all Christians alike, other than that they go into the same category as all other religious people—meaning they all believe something that cannot be proven. Other than that, I don’t really group them all together, unless they’re part of a specific group (e.g. Westboro Baptist Church). Like I said before, I don’t have a problem with religion UNLESS individuals are harming others. I don’t believe that all people of all religions go out of their way to harm people, nor do I believe that all Christians or Buddhists do so. I do, however, believe that there are SOME who do. That’s not universal to all members of a group, but rather towards individuals who also belong to said group.
Also, I’m not going to go through all your examples of why demons exist and disprove them. All I’m going to say is that doctors are human and make mistakes. Additionally, the tests designed to diagnose are created by humans and none are 100% accurate, there are always false positives and false negatives. That said, if a doctor makes a mistake in a diagnosis and the patient is seemingly fine, insurance companies don’t like to pay for expensive medical tests to satisfy curiosity. Hospitals also don’t like to waste doctors’, nurses’, orderlies’, etc. time or space in the hospital on patients that are no longer experiencing their symptoms. The human body is very adaptive and can heal itself in some instances. Maybe that’s what happened. Maybe it was god. We’ll never really know because the tests to discover the true cause of your brother’s “miracle” weren’t able to be done.
I don’t know if I hit all your points. I’m exhausted. I don’t even know if I’m making sense anymore because I’m sick and currently sleep deprived, but I do find it highly ironic because that you’re accusing me of stereotyping all Christians when I am currently writing a paper on stereotyping. Oh my. Several years of my life devoted to REDUCING stereotypes and apparently I’m just stereotyping out the wazoo.
Well, I guess that’s several years of my life completely wasted. In which case I would say this is a futile cause.
Except, oh wait. It’s actually not. And I’m not, in fact, stereotyping any one group.
And I’m done with this conversation. I love the questions I’ve been getting (aside from this conversation), but I don’t particularly enjoy these arguments so if this continues I will be turning off the ask feature, at least for a while.
